CD sales is not falling because of piracy.
Are the biggest artists too big? Do they get too much attention? Do they deserve it? Who is able to tell good quality from bad? The critics? Is good vocal an electronicly tuned voice? Is the best artist the better looking?
With the Internet and the downloading a change in the market is taking place, and record companies are loosing control. The audience are more able to decide themselves, and they may effectively tip each other. Music is more available, even the not so marketed. The record companies are tied in expencive contracts with some artists, and they have to market at expencive costs to justify the costs allready taken. The creativity among new artists and talents does not show in the establishment, because they are not able to keep up with the speed.
Maybe it all was better before? The dust from the pickup, and a chorus not necessarily well tuned? On CD's today you will find sounds from an instrument wich you are not able to create accousticly without effects. Middle tone has been removed and the reverb is pollished so that the critic is actually not able to tell you whether the musician can play or not. Actually they are not able to tell good music from bad.The Internet makes it possible for the interested to find out for himself. And when the possiblities grows, the establishment screams.
We are the dust on the pickup.
You can wipe it off, move it, but you are able to choose. Who can tell if not so polished sound wount sell? Or does image do it all? On the Internet you are an adress and the music ends with .mp3. Frightening for the advertisers! Frightening if the music is selling itselves.
The Norwegian answer to Pink Floyd!
We called ourselves the Norwegian answer to Pink Floyd, or maybe even better, "Another brick in the Pink Floyd wall". We are inspired by the music we used to listen to, and we came to the following conclusion: Should we not sound like the 80's music because the critics don't like it? If we like the 80's isn't there a chance that others might as well? If you want to be "safe" on a party before you go out on the town with your friends, isn't there a chance you would play Abba greatest hits? We still sound a bit 80's...
Open dialog!
How many artists do you find on the net with a guestbook and a mail adress, and how many do reply mails or contributions? When did you last time read critical comments on the artists own website? You find contributions and you will also find our replys! That is called dialog and we are affected by those who have an opinion.
All songs free on MP3-format!
We call it martketing, and a chance for the listener to make up his mind. Can we improve something and will our music sell? With the Internet you are able to sell CD's without help from any other.
The public will decide if there is going to be a CD-production for sale!
Does it make sence to check the market? Will someone buy the music? We give away 1000 CD's while we are preparing the final cut. Stupid someone says, smart marketing, is our reply! And when the CD comes: We will do something new, making the people wanna buy even though the music is downloadable for free.
